Recruiting Animals
As part of this update, the Village recruitment cap has been raised to 10 per village. The breakdown of those 10 slots are as follows:
- 3 exclusively for Villagers
- 3 exclusively for Animals
- 4 for either Villagers or Animals
The recruitable animals in the game are:
- Cows
- Now with additional spot patterns and colors
- Sheep
- Chickens
- Brown and tan variations will spawn in the Dry Valley
- Yellow chickens will spawn in the Grasslands
- Pigs
How to Recruit Animals
In order to recruit animals, you'll need to first build an Animal House in your Village. The Animal House is a new Station, and the recipe for it will be unlocked upon reaching Level 2 within your Village.
With that built, you'll then need to use an Animal Treat after petting them. You'll unlock the recipe for Animal Treats after constructing the aforementioned Animal House.
Once the animal has eaten the treat, you'll have a limited amount of time to lead them back to the Village, and you'll need to try to avoid conflict entirely on the route back. Animals can be transported in a vehicle, can be pulled around by a Fishing Rod, and various other creative methods.
After getting the animal back to the Village, interact with the Animal House to assign the animal to it, and then you'll be able to name the animal for a pre-assigned list of names. In order to keep them around, you'll likely need to assign a Villager to take care of the animals too.
