Finding the perfect gift for your husband can be difficult… Especially if you’ve been married for 15+ years and your husband seems to have everything or want absolutely nothing.
Over the years, I’ve given my husband some pretty awesome and creative gifts, like the time that I had our wedding cake baker make a replica of the top tier of our wedding cake for an anniversary gift, but it’s difficult to keep coming up with romantic gift ideas for him.
So I was super pumped when I had the idea for this awesome Reasons Why I Love You gift box!
And I was even more excited when I realized how easy it was going to be to make this gift for him!
I’ve seen similar boxes available to purchase online, but they were much more expensive because the company handled all of the printing and engraving of the photos. So I decided to DIY my own I love you box.
And this just might be one of my favorite gift ideas for him!

What is a Reasons Why I Love You box?
This unique and romantic gift idea is pretty much exactly what it sounds like… It’s a box of small note cards (or even wooden engraved hearts) that include specific reasons why the gift giver loves the recipient.
You can write your own personalized messages to include in the gift, like these:
- I love that you’re my teammate, whether it’s tag-teaming on running the kids to all of their activities or working on a random home project.
- I love that you work so hard.
- I love that my Grandma’s friends love you, and that you take the time to make anyone you meet feel special.
- I love that you cry during sad movies.

Why this personalized I Love You Because box is a great gift…
The mass-produced gift boxes that include reasons why I love you are designed to appeal to a large audience, so the reasons that are included on the cards or wooden hearts are generally much more vague. Like “I love you because you make me laugh”… That could apply to millions of couples out there!
So to avoid sounding like a cliche or including over-used romantic catchphrases in my gift box, like “You are my rock”, I decided to create my own.
The printable photo card templates can easily be personalized with specific memories or your husband’s wacky quirks so that they represent your relationship, instead of millions of others.
Not only is this an awesome and romantic gift idea on a budget, it can also serve as a memory box of key moments in your relationship. And you can even include little momentos in the box, like the ticket stubs from the first concert you went to together.
What to Use for the Reasons I Love You Gift Box
You have a few options for creating your Reasons I Love You gift with the printable photo card templates. Here are just a few ideas:
- Use an unfinished wood trinket box that you can get at craft stores. Add your own wood stain or paint the box yourself.
- Order a personalized wooden photo box from Etsy or Amazon, and have it engraved with “Reasons why I love you” and your names.
- Use the “I love you because” photo cards to make a Reasons Why I Love You jar instead. Just print and cut the cards, and add them to a mason jar.
How to Make the Reasons Why I Love You Gift
Thanks to the printable photo cards that are editable in an easy-to-use graphics program, this I love you gift is super simple to make!
Just scroll through your camera roll for the photos that you want to use, add them to the “I love you because” card templates, and print. Here are some tips for putting together your gift box:
Step 1: Gather your photos and write a “Reason why I love you” to go with each picture.
To start making your gift, scroll through the photos in your phone’s photo library or on your computer. As you find photos that you want to use for your gift for him, then email them to yourself or, if you’re using an Apple iPhone and a MacBook computer, you can use the “Air Drop” feature to quickly and easily get the photos to your computer. *Note – If the photos are already on your computer, you can skip this step.
Then, write a “Reason why I love you” to go with each picture. Try to be specific when writing your reasons, and if you feel a bit of writer’s block and can’t come up with very good reasons why you love him, then use the actual photos for inspiration.
For instance, for this “I love you because” card, I used a picture of my husband and I at the zoo. So to go with this photo I wrote: “You’re always up for a random adventure… like an impromptu trip to the zoo without the kids.”

Step 2: Create and print the “I love you because” cards.
When you’ve got all of your photos on your computer, upload them to Canva to start making your cards. (Don’t worry… I’ll show you how to do this in the PDF of instructions.)
The Canva templates for creating your own Reasons Why I Love You gift include 3 different card designs, so you can use whichever one that you like best for your gift. Here are examples of the 3 different styles of photo cards that are included in the templates:
You can easily change the colors and fonts of the cards pictured above. In fact, the Canva template (available in my shop here) comes with a 5 page PDF of instructions so you can set up your cards quickly and easily! I’ll even show you how to make your photos black and white for a more modern look!
Once the cards are made, just download them from Canva to your computer and print them on white card stock. Then, cut out the individual cards with the reasons why you love your husband or boyfriend.
Step 3: Use the photo cards to make a Reasons Why I Love You gift.
When all of the reasons why I love you cards are printed and cut, it’s time to actually make the gift box or jar.

Find a nice wooden box on Amazon, Etsy, or a craft store. Then, just add the photo cards with the “I love you because” reasons to the box. The great thing about a gift box option is that you can add other small momentos to the box as well and use it as a nice keepsake!

How to Use the Canva Template to Make the Reasons Photo Cards
The Canva template for these cute photo cards is available in my shop here. Once you purchase, you’ll receive a PDF with the link to open the photo template, as well as step-by-step instructions for how to customize the cards with your own photos and wording. *You will need a free Canva account to access the templates and create your own “I love you because” cards.
Then, it’s really very easy to customize your own gift. Just follow these steps:
- Click the link in the PDF instructions to access the Canva template. Then, a new Canva window will appear. Just click “Use Template”.
- Sign up for a FREE Canva account, if you don’t already have one.
- Upload your photos to use them in the Reasons I Love You cards. Just click “Uploads” from the far left icon.
- Drag and drop the photos into the cards.
- To edit the wording on the cards, just click on the text that you want to change and type in your own reasons.
